Paradisus

Paradise, for Western culture, is a place of happiness with no jolts, a “garden” that satisfies the senses and the spirit, lavishes gifts that spill forth to form part of a harmonic whole. In the Book of Genesis, the Judeo-Christian tradition envisioned the creation of man and woman in a paradisiacal setting. But from its conception, Eden is steeped in the tragedy of its loss, a way of justifying –by means of disobedience, guilt and punishment– the defect in divine creation: mortality.
